For many years, the university and the Department of Mathematical Sciences have placed great emphasis on graduate employment, actively guiding students to develop sound career and job-seeking perspectives. Over the past five years, a total of 779 students have graduated from the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Tsinghua University, including 381 undergraduates, 105 master’s students, and 293 doctoral students. The primary industries for employment are software and information technology services, education, and finance, with most graduates joining state-owned enterprises and academic research institutions.
Undergraduate graduates primarily pursue further studies, with domestic options including Tsinghua University (continuing studies at the same university), Peking University, and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Overseas study destinations include Oxford University, Stanford University, the University of Chicago, and École Normale Supérieure (Paris).
Master’s graduates mainly secure employment upon graduation, primarily in the electronics and information technology sector, finance, education, government agencies, and universities and research institutes. Notable employers include the People's Bank of China, China Development Bank, Tsinghua High School, Beijing No. 4 High School, and Tencent Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd.
Doctoral graduates also predominantly enter the job market directly, focusing on electronics and information technology, education, government sectors, and academic research institutions. A significant number take postdoctoral positions at universities and research institutes, including the University of Chicago, Boston University, the University of Pennsylvania, Tsinghua University, Peking University, and various institutes under the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In information transmission, software, and IT service companies, graduates join organizations like Tencent Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., Huawei Technologies (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., and ByteDance Network Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd.
The Department of Mathematics upholds the value of cultivating students to become new-generation talents capable of shouldering the responsibility of national rejuvenation, encouraging graduates to seek opportunities in key regions such as central and western China and in vital institutions. In collaboration with the Student Career Development Center, the department provides diverse career guidance and strategic advice. It works closely with alumni-run enterprises to offer valuable job-search resources and practical social experience. The department regularly organizes employment mobilization meetings and specialized job fairs to help graduates better understand the evolving job market, clarify their career paths, and expand their employment channels, thereby ensuring high-quality and full employment for each graduating cohort.
