摘要:Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) is the phenomenon that particles of integer spin (“Bosons”) occupy a macroscopic quantum state.Predicted in 1924 and having been on textbooks for decades, it was not experimentally observed until 1995 using laser cooling technique. Though it has been conjectured for a long time that the time-dependent Gross-Pitaevskii equations describe such a phenomenon, the rigorous understanding of this conjecture is not started until recently. In this talk, we will explain how the 3D cubic nonlinear Schroedinger equations(NLS) with a switchable quadratic trap arises from BEC. In particular, this work fi
lls a gap in the literature between the work by Lieb, Seiringer, Solovej, and Yngvason, which corresponds to the ground state when the trap is fully on, and the work of Erdös, Schlein and Yau and Chen and Pavlovic, which addresses the evolution after the trap has been turned off.
