Abstract: 

The aim of this course is to give an introduction to the equations governing the motion of incompressible  fluids (in particular in a two-dimensional setting). After a general introduction to the equation and its physical meaning, the first part of the course will be devoted to the variational interpretation of these equations, in connection with  energy-minimizer configurations.

 In the second part of this course we will present some general facts about the Euler equations and mainly study the questions of existence and uniqueness of global solutions.

 According to time left, extensions to the compressible case or to related equations will be addressed. In the whole course, the rhythm will be adapted to the students' background and, according to their basis, we will try to go directly to the main features of the problem and to develop the proofs that are easier to follow.
