摘要Biofilms are ubiquitous in nature and medical sciences. They are made up of live bacteria, extra-cellular polymeric substances (EPS), and water.In this talk, I will discuss a mathematical modeling paradigm where we apply one-fluid multicomponent formulation to develop complex fluid mixture model to describe biofilm growth dynamics and biofilm host fluid matrix interaction. In addition to the material mixing and hydrodynamic interaction among the components of the material mixture system, we will also address the cell-cell communication mechanism known as quorum sensing as well as cell motility. 3-D numerical simulations for various biofilm fluid interaction will be discussed as well.

 

报告人简介:王奇教授1982年毕业于南开大学数学学院。1988年和1991年在Ohio State University获得硕士和博士学位。1991-2001年在IUPUI(印第安纳大学与普渡大学印第安纳波里斯联合分校)数学系,任助理教授、副教授。2001-2009年在佛罗里达州立大学数学系任,副教授、教授(2004-2007年任Director of Applied and Computational Mathematics Program)。2008年至今在南卡罗来纳大学数学系、跨学科数学研究所和纳米中心担任教授。王奇教授的研究兴趣包括计算流体、复杂流体、动力学理论、生物流体和生物材料建模与计算等方面。自2000年以来,王奇教授发表了80余篇研究论文。他的研究受到了AFOSR (Air Force Office of Scientific Research), NSF (National ScienceFoundation)NIH (National Institute of Health)等基金的资助。王奇教授还是南开大学陈省身特聘教授(2005-2010)和南开大学长江学者讲座教授(2010-2013)。王奇教授现在还在北京科学计算研究中心担任客座教授。
